Solomon Steplight is an entrepreneur, tech aficionado and education advocate who has spent his career creating opportunities for students and parents. He was on track to become a professional football player before he discovered his love for robotics. After earning a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics from the University of Pennsylvania, Steplight went on to lead a number of education software startups. He then turned to public service, managing the finances of both Newark (under Mayor Cory Booker) and Hoboken – improving the latter's credit rating from near junk bond status to AA+. He currently serves as COO and CFO of the national nonprofit Girls Who Code, where he strives to shrink the gender and racial achievement gap in tech. He lives in Newark, New Jersey with his wife and two small children.
Leslie Kerner is an innovative senior leader with extensive experience in building K-12 education businesses and products. She has spent most of her career in education technology organizations. At Amplify (formerly Wireless Generation), she started the professional services division, delivering in-person and online training and consulting services to educators, and leading the development of products that provide personalized professional development pathways for teachers and leaders. She has also worked in management consulting and higher education, and is on the board of Peer Health Exchange, a nonprofit organization that provides health education to teens in under-resourced high schools. She is a passionate leader, committed to serving her customers, teams, and stakeholders. Leslie holds an M.B.A. from the Fuqua School at Duke University and a B.A. from Northwestern University. She lives in South Orange, New Jersey, with her husband and two young children.
Joshua Beckerman leads all aspects of website development for Prepfoleo, from strategy to quality assurance testing. Originally a Java-trained programmer, Beckerman is well versed in modern web technologies and building platforms. He has worked in diverse management and development lead roles, helping bring to life the ConNext Ed app for Bayer Healthcare, the Horizon Interactive Award-winning Metrie platform and a website for the notorious creations of Adult Swim's Brad Neely. Beckerman considers himself travel-obsessed and has visited more than 40 countries – Berlin, Tokyo, Stockholm and the Costa del Sol are some of his favorite places on Earth. He holds a Master's degree in Computer and Information Technology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Alyssa Julien oversees product development at Prepfoleo, helping implement new features to enable students and parents to find the educational resources they need. She has extensive experience in website and software development and can hold her own as the only woman on a tech team, having worked at major financial institutions, hedge funds and on trading floors. She finds Prepfoleo's mission eminently relatable as she wishes she had the kind of guidance and mentorship Prepfoleo offers when she was choosing a career path. Julien earned a B.S. from Boston University in Management, with a concentration in Management Information Systems, and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Human Factors and Information.
